Aerospace and Defense Quality Management Systems Certification
Certifications in accordance to EN 9100 standards are primary requirements to operate both on Civil Aeronautical markets, where the certification is mandatory for suppliers, and on Military one, where the certification, even if still voluntary, it is already under study by several Defense Ministries to be recognized as a basic standard.
EN 9100 – Aerospace Quality Management Systems: Requirements for Development, Production, Installation and Service Organizations
9100 series certifications show the needs of Aerospace Industry to use a Quality Management System directly controlled by the Industry itself, by mean of a Surveillance process (Oversight) on Accreditation Bodies (AB) and Certification Bodies (CB).
Customers objectives are: cost reduction in Second Party Audits, expected improvements in design & manufacturing processes for the certified organizations, to give the best guarantee in product conformity to contractual requirements in terms of reliability, safety and airworthiness.
EN 9110 – Quality Management Systems – Requirements for Aviation Maintenance organizations
9110 Standard is dedicated to Organizations involved in the maintenance and overhaul Aerospace market. This Norm can be considered aside, in a complementary way (not as replacement) for a support Management System to National Authorities Regulations for Aerospace maintenance and overhaul (PART-145 Series).
EN 9120 - Requirements for Aviation, Space and Defence Distributors and Suppliers
9120 Standard is for Organizations not involved in the Aerospace product realization, but only in distribution and logistics. Apparently simpler than the other two, actually it’s of critical relevance for the Aerospace Industry, as it guarantees customer requirements during stocking and distribution of spare parts (as example during original manufacturer lots splitting) and in presence of counterfeit or suspected parts.
